I’m working on a few resolutions for 2012, but I tend to be a bit lackadaisical when it comes to actually following through with them. Honestly, I think the whole process is silly, and I find, this time of year in particular, that I’m not really in the mood for breaking bad habits or starting something new.
Typically, I start feeling motivated and ready for a change in the Springtime when the longer days and warmer temperatures are just the spark I need to begin anew …and by that, of course, I mean a new crash diet and the fad workout of the moment before I have to put on a bathing suit for summer. A new calendar year rolling in has just never been enough of a motivator for me, but in the spirit of the season, I usually give it the old college try.
So here are my casual resolutions for 2012:
1. Get Crafty. I’ve tried my hand at sewing, knitting, and all sorts of general crafts all of which have ended terribly. I’ve even failed at kid’s crafts; remember the Unicorn Poop incident (and that was what I got just for keeping craft supplies in the house)? I’ve been thinking though; perhaps I’ve just been doing the wrong types of crafts. Maybe there’s something out there that not only could I do, but that I’d enjoy also. Something to which I excel, something that would appeal to me on a number of levels which, in turn, would motivate me to complete it. I was thinking something like this would be perfect because I’d have nearly a year to complete it, and it looks like it would be a blast:
Plus, I could get friends involved in this one. I have a feeling if I asked around, I’d have plenty of volunteers to help me get this kind of crafty.
2. Read and write more. Before kids, I used to read all the time. Now, I’m lucky if I read anything that has chapters. Typically I read a few magazines each month (which don’t even happen in one sitting), articles online, a few blogs, and of course I have my fill of children’s literature. What I lack is any new books of my own choosing. In fact, I think the last book I read cover to cover and finished was when I had pregnancy induced insomnia while I was expecting Cecilia (nearly three years ago). So this year, I’m resolving to read more…you know, in my free time.
Same thing goes for the writing. I don’t mean this blog either. I’ve actually half written a handful of books, and maybe this will be the year I actually finish one (or two) again in my *ahem* free time.
3. The proverbial exercise resolution. Why not, right? Well, I’ll tell you why not …two words: I’m lazy. Seriously, that’s what it boils down to, but I know I should do it. I just don’t…ever. Every year I say I’m going to diet or exercise, and this year, thanks to my Irritable-Celiac’s-Who-Knows-What’s-Wrong-With-My-Insides-Syndrome, I’ve lost plenty of weight so now should focus on toning up. The problem, is that takes effort and time, both of which I’m lacking. Maybe if I hit the lottery I’ll hire a personal trainer…or plastic surgeon. For traditions sake, and because I know I really should, I’m putting exercise on my list for this year.
