Wednesday morning felt longer than most, and I watched anxiously as the minutes slowly ticked away on the clock. As I sat in the window and waited, I felt like a kid on Christmas!
The butterflies in my stomach fluttered and danced with every sound of an approaching vehicle.
When, oh when, would it arrive?
What would it feel like to finally hold it in my hands?
How will I feel when I finally look upon its beauty…its power.
Just when I thought I couldn’t make it another moment without it, I heard the undeniable sound of the UPS truck as it rounded the corner and approached my house.
Before the driver was able to apply the brakes and halt the truck, I was already out the door, running barefoot to meet him at the end of the driveway.
I couldn’t help but bounce around a little as I heard the driver searching for my package in the back. As he pulled the box into view, I tried to be casual and said, “Oh, I didn’t even realize this was coming today.”
The driver smiled but eyed me suspiciously, clearly not believing a word I said, and replied, “Let me carry it to the door for you.”
I caught myself skipping up the driveway behind him and quickly changed my pace to a quick walk careful not to follow too close behind him.
As he set the package down and scanned the item the joy was too much to contain and I blurted out, “Oh my God it’s more beautiful than I imagined! I can’t wait to fire this baby up!”
He chuckled and told me to have fun as I began opening the packaging just inside the door.
My hands couldn’t go fast enough.
I quickly read the instructions and assembled the product, letting out the occasional “ohhhh!” and “ahhh!” as I connected pieces together completing a virtual masterpiece right before my eyes.
Surely this is how Michelangelo felt as he put the final touches on the Sistine Chapel in Rome.
Finally, I plugged it in, clicked the power button on, and stood motionless for a moment absorbing the power as the machine kicked to life.
A flood of emotions rushed through me as I took her on her maiden voyage…
The LG Kompressor Plus sucked even more than I ever imagined…it sucked up dirt, dust, goldfish crackers, Cheerios and the like that had been neglected by my previous Dyson.
If only vacuuming was this fun every day…
It’s the simple things right? Are there things you get a little too excited about? Leave me a comment!
I can totally relate. Great post!
There isn’t anything more magical, or more personal connecting moment than turning on a new appliance for the first time, the feel of the hum, the rumble under your fingert tips…but then again, there is nothing more embarrassing than being caught enjoying the first moment of bonding with the maiden voyage of a vacuum, washing machine or blender…sigh…man, is it hot in here?
New vacuums are the best. It’s better than unicorns coming to your house and glittering everywhere. which would be fine, because then you could vacuum up the glitter later.
How exciting…you’re funny I must say! I was happy for you just reading this. I probably would be this excited to. We have a cheap nasty vacuum here and it doesn’t do the job at all
Vacuuming is one of those chores where you see the results immediately…its like instant gratification!
love love LOVE to vacuum. You go, girl!
I can relate! After I got my new one in February, I was obsessed! I brought it out when we had company to demonstrate. Sometimes I vacuumed 3 times a day. Obsessed!!
Okay, I still get excited when I open up a brand new box of Crayola Crayons. Love the smell, love the sharp tips, love how they are organized in the box. I know it’s not an appliance, but still. The excitement is there all the same:)
Love it!!!!
New follower via Adventures of Modern Mom…who believes that its all about the little things too.
When my husband actually puts DOWN the seat after a use. *Sigh* the little things…
Cracking open brand new books and hearing that noise, being the first to shove a nose between the pages.
Plugging in a microwave and reveling in it before any food is ever cooked.
Taking the new Swivel Sweeper around the kitchen on its maiden voyage.
I love taking all the wrappings off anything that is – plain and simple – MINE. ALL MINE. Makeup, new bar of soap, earrings I buy off Etsy…anything at all. I get Vacuum Giddy.
So I understand exactly how you felt.
I felt the same way when my husband gave me a garbage disposal for our anniversary one year. Wow, have our standards gone down or what?
I have never been impressed by Dyson. I love my new LG refrigerator and microwave (actually I got them last Memorial Day). I’m going to look into this.
Great picture!

Too funny! Now for a totally unrelated comment. I used to be able to comment or “like” your posts on FB and for the past few months I am no longer able to do so. I can see comments but the only option I am given is to “share.” Hoping I didn’t get blocked from posting for some reason! At any rate, keep up the giggles! Love reading your posts!
While I like my dyson and how easy it is to maneuver and how much dirt it seems to pick up, I DO NOTlike the fact that it will not pick up Goldfish. As a mother of 5 (12, 10, 8, 3, and 11 months) there are a LOT of Goldfish swimming around on my floors some days. I might have to check this vacuum out!
You know, I think your UPS man must love you! From all of your posts it just seems like he finds you hilarious and must like stopping at your house! I love your blog so much!
I miss reading your posts! Where are you
I had a ten year love affair with my Dyson. But then i bought a Bissell carpet shampooer. oh good lord! the muck that got sucked out of my carpet was truly disgusting. My trusty old Dyson has forever since been known as The Fraud!
I know what my next vacuum will be… Right now I have a cheap $65 vacuum because it’s all I could afford. I want this one!
