Last year you might remember that our Elf, Fred, went Missing. Knowing that we still needed a Santa’s helper to keep the kids on their best behavior through the holiday season, and fearing that the Elf might have come to a deliberate end at the hand of one of the kids, I decided to create a new helper perhaps geared towards the child that falls on the naughtier side of the Naughty/Nice Scale. The Troll from the Pole was born, and he was a huge hit with my kids- really, I think we all liked him better than that creepy Fred.
The Troll from the Pole, as you know from his poem, operates on the same time table as the Elf on the Shelf, so we expected his return Thanksgiving night. This year he came by sled, and in the spirit of the season even left each of the kids a small present.
Any apprehension the kids may have had now that one of Santa’s spies (their words not mine) was back in the house didn’t show once they discovered that he was back …with
Although the presents were a hit, you have to remember that they’re coming from a Christmas Troll. So whereas an Elf might leave something sweet, a Troll, who himself can be a bit naughty, would never leave you something completely nice.
In this case the kids did get Christmas themed candy with a dispenser…however, the candy is dispensed from the butt of the dispenser. Despite the means to the getting the candy, Joey loved his jelly bean pooping Santa, Jake loved the pooping reindeer, and not surprisingly Cecilia couldn’t get enough of the the pooping Penguin.
Even the dog took notice, and my daughter was happy to give him, as well as everyone else she saw over the weekend, a demo…
Unlike the Elf who moves every single night, our Troll stayed in the same place Friday and Saturday, but then moved twice on Sunday. This is because sometimes Trolls like their vantage points, so on occasion they like to keep scoping out the action from the same place…it’s not because some Mom or Dad forgot to move them.
If they hear kids misbehaving, they might move during the daytime too, so they can see what’s going on.
And although it’s only been a few days, I have a feeling our Troll from the Pole is going to be a lot of fun again this year…and I also think his presence will be inspiring lots of good behavior.
Keep an eye out for some of his funnier photos coming soon.
