As you all know, I’ve been riding Huffy Bikes since I was a kid on my own Sweet Thunder, and I’m so excited that my kids now have the chance to experience the same awesome bikes! For my middle child, Jake, who turned five over the summer, the Huffy Boys Pro Thunder 16″ Bike has been the perfect first ‘big kid’s bike!’
The Huffy Boys Pro Thunder 16″ Bike is recommended for kids ages 3-6, but it really depends on the size of your child. The Huffy website has a bike fitting section to help you determine which size is best based on the height of the child. If the 16″ is not right for you, there are a number of bikes that are smaller (12″) and larger options too. Back to the Boys Pro Thunder 16″ Bike, this model (21801) comes with a durable steel frame that has a lifetime warranty. It also comes fully decorated, has a padded seat, and has also has an enclosed chain guard for added protection. My favorite feature, however, is the extra wide training wheels which provide an added sense of stability.
After riding (and racing) all summer, Jake thinks he’s just about ready to take the training wheels off. We tried to document this again this past weekend, but he wanted just one more week with the training wheels on practicing “turns.” Because of the wide training wheel though, I’m pretty confident, thank Jake will be surprised how quickly he is able to ride without the training wheels on. Although, they give a good sense of stability and balance, they really are positioned to be there to help actually train, allowing the child to learn how to balance.
With or without the training wheels, I know I’ve been having a hard time keeping up with Jake and his Huffy Boys 16″ Pro Thunder Bike (aka his “racing bike”)!
You can buy the Pro Thunder at several major retailers including Toys R Us, Target and Amazon, but check out the Huffy website for a full list of available retailers. Check out the other awesome boys bikes on Huffy’s website (and they also have bikes for men, women & girls too)!
For all the latest, don’t miss Huffy on Facebook either!
Oh, and be sure to check back with me for more on our Huffy experiences! I’ll let you know how we do with no training wheels!
