Amy Waltz Designs-Mindful Jewelry

Amy Waltz Designs’ (AWD) custom creates jewelry which she says is “inspired by the essential minerals, metals and natural gemstones found within our Earth, which throughout time have been found to possess properties that can heighten positive energy, promote emotional and physical healing and enhance spirituality.”  AWD uses a 7 step eco- friendly aging process on each piece which makes them unique and gives them their own coloring, depth and  individuality.

Amy explains, “It may sound strange or impossible, but my vision is simple. Each piece not only carries with it a message but a sweet sound intended to remind and awaken all that is good. If this goodness vibrates from your heart, perhaps this tiny ripple will swell and even if just one person is more mindful, the world is better.  So I’m kind of using jewelry as a meditational reminder. The sounds “twinkle” (twinkle is a semi made-up word to describe the sound they make — it’s subtler and sweeter than a ring) as if to remind the recipient to breathe a little deeper, let go a little more, extend your circle a little wider, and allow peace, forgiveness and compassion to flow in and out, in and out.”

I was delighted to be given the chance to review such thoughtful jewelry which is more like wearing artwork!  Amy allowed me to choose a necklace, and she created the piece pictured above (the Three Tag Tiny) adorned with the names of each of my children as well as the Ruby birthstone that I share with all three of them.  In addition to my piece, as all the others she creates, being unique with its color, depth, and finish, Amy’s packaging of my necklace reflected the great care and thought that goes into her pieces. It was delicately wrapped and I felt like I was opening a designer gift…and actually I was.  I was touched that she had included a hand written note taking about the meaning behind the Ruby birthstone, the significance of sharing it with my children, and what the piece should remind me to achieve each day.  Amy’s presentation alone shows that she makes more than just jewelry, she’s making art. I’ve received so many comments and compliments on the necklace each time I’ve worn it from friends and strangers alike.

Amy Waltz Designs carries an entire line of inspired jewelry, not just necklaces.  Check out her earrings (I love the moon drops), bracelets, and rings!  So can you go and buy the woman you love a piece of jewelry in a department store this holiday season? Of course you could, but I (and she) would hope you’d show just how much you care with a piece just as unique as she is…or ladies, treat yourself!  You deserve it!  I’m thinking of buying my daughter a charm bracelet and adding one charm a year and giving it to her when she’s older.  So don’t wait; visit Amy Waltz Designs’ website today (http://amywaltz.bigcartel.com/) , or find her on Facebook.  Check back with me soon too for a Amy Waltz Giveaway!

Amy is also offering a fabulous promo code to Domestic Diva readers!  Use code “divagift2010″ for 20% off your order!

Carolyn’s Kitchen Holiday Sparkle Apron

I know you all remember Carolyn’s Kitchen from our fabulous Dorothy Apron Review and Daisy Apron Giveaway at the beginning of the summer.  The Dorothy Apron and Daisy Aprons are some of my favorites, but leave it to Carolyn West, the creative designer and aproness herself, to come up with some fabulously new fun and flirty styles just for the holidays.  Again, I had a difficult time choosing between her styles for the Fall/Winter release 2010, given the choice between the Party in Pink, Tease Pots (love the name by the way!),  Tease Cups, and Holiday Sparkle Aprons.  In true Carolyn’s Kitchen fashion, these aprons are sweet and sexy with a vintage feel. Don’t let the word “vintage” fool you though!  These fabulous aprons are not something you’d find in your Grandma’s kitchen. Carolyn’s aprons have been described as aprons that “enhance the merriment of playing whimsical dress-up combined with the indulgent delights of naughty pin-ups.”

As much as I loved the tea pots and cups (sassily named “Tease Pots and Tease Cups), I decided to go with one of the holiday aprons.  Although the Party in Pink was fabulous, I went with the Holiday Sparkle this time around.  I also love my Dorothy Full Apron, but this time, in a deliberate attempt to be different,  I decided to go with the half apron style.  My Holiday Sparkle half apron, pictured above, has a a multitude of different Christmas trees on it (red, white, pink, etc.) in their own fabulous styles (striped, polka dot, etc.).  As with any half apron, it ties in the back, but the front is also graced with a big red bow with white polka dots.  The same pattern of red and white polka dots adds some sass in a garter style bunching towards the bottom of the apron and also is used as the frilly bottom trim.  I cannot wait to have my first holiday party of the season!  This, and all Carolyn’s aprons, are made in the USA, are machine washable, and are easily ironed.  All of her latest and greatest aprons come in full or half size, have matching gloves, and most with matching garters available too.  These aprons, especially the holiday ones, make fabulous hostess gifts or just holiday gifts for your favorite Domestic Diva!  So visit all of Carolyn’s creations at her website (http://www.carolynskitchenonline.com/) or follow her on Twitter.

Rhonda Shear Intimates

Former Miss. Louisiana and celebrity TV Host, Rhonda Shear, from USA’s “Up All Night,” is known for her beauty and style. Now, she is sharing her secret to always looking great with her women’s intimates and shapewear line that is sexy, comfortable, affordable and can slim you, instantly! Shear Intimates is the perfect product line for women of all shapes and sizes, will complete any outfit and is a great holiday gift. With 3 million units sold, Rhonda has come a long way from hosting TV with her amazing line that has become one of HSN’s top selling products here in the USA, The Shopping Channel in Canada and on Ideal World in the UK.

I was able to try several items from Rhonda’s Intimates Collection and I am very excited about finding a brand that meets my needs!  First, I was a bit hesitant about trying the “Ahhh Seamless Bra” (and matching brief) because as a larger chested woman with three children I would never (ever, ever) even pick up a bra to try on or purchase without under-wire in it.  I wondered if a “normal” woman my size would be able to pull it off without wire, but to my delight, it not only fits, it’s also supportive and so comfortable!  The matching briefs are fantastic too, and have come in handy with tighter pants (no seams showed at all).

The Ahhh Seamless Bra

The Vava Voom Bra

After liking the Seamless Bra so much, I knew the VaVaVoom Push-Up Bra would be a hit too.  Pictured above in nude, but I received mine in black.  It’s soft, sexy and comfortable.  In addition to under-wire, it also has two removable pads which I choose to take out. This bra has been great as one to wear with day to day clothing as well as dressier clothing for a night out (even though those are few and far between).

The Sweet Pea Lace Cup Butterknit Gown was another pleasant surprise from Rhonda’s Collection.  Again, without under-wire I was worried about how the top would fit, but it was perfect!  The top is lightly padded and the front has a floral lace overlay but the back is sheer lace.  The bottom flows nicely and is a silky material that is flattering, sexy and comfortable.  I was also pleasantly surprised to see the MSRP on this is only $36.  It feels expensive!

Lastly, God Bless Rhonda for making a comfortable piece of shape-wear!  Although, I’d prefer not to have to wear one of these at all, I have not yet committed to a fitness program and I would also prefer not to look “rolly-polly” in my clothing either.  So this holiday, before I begin my New Year’s Fitness routine, you may see me out and about and think I don’t need to tone up all that much…but I’ll share my secret.  I’m probably wearing Rhonda’s Sweetie High Waist Mesh Longline. It shapes the tummy, hips and thighs…and how!  Plus it’s not something you wear to look good and feel like you are suffocating.  It’s breathable, comfortable and makes me look thinner than I actually am….have I mentioned I love my Rhonda Shear Intimate Collection yet?

Sweetie High Waist Lace Mesh Longline

The Sweet Pea Lace Cup Butterknit Gown

Ladies, we’ve talked about this several times over the last few months.  This holiday out yourself on that list.  Visit Rhonda’s website and check out her full line and the places to buy some great intimates!  You won’t be disappointed!

The “No Muffin Top” Skirt

by Clair Vintage Inspired

Alyson Clair, vintage inspired fabulous fashion designer, is forcing me to go out. No really, she is. Alyson recently sent me a beautiful pencil style skirt in red that she created and calls the “No Muffin Top Skirt.”  This skirt fits so well, is so flattering to wear, and is just all around so fabulous, I need to find somewhere to wear it! Out!  This can’t be something I keep hanging in the closet and only wear on special occasions.  I would have killed for a skirt this fashionable, functional and fantastic when I was working.  I have no less than eight pencil skirts in my closet and not one has the feel or look as Alyson’s.  Although, it does not have a super high waist band, it is just high enough to prevent one of the worst fashion faux pas- the muffin top.  After being graced with three children in five years, this unsightly fashion faux pas is something I worry about with snug clothing.  Did I mention Alyson’s skirt is tight fitting?  It is worn the way a pencil skirt should be worn-snug.  It’s also double knit and has a heavier feel so don’t worry about showing anything other than your curves.

Clair Vintage inspired clothing is actually handmade by Alyson Clair at her home in Portland, OR.  Her clothing designs are vintage inspired, but can be worn by any fashionable modern woman. Alyson’s clothing line is aimed at dressing women of all shapes and sizes, so whether you are curvy or string bean thin, you’ll look and feel great in your Clair clothing!  Visit Alyson’s website (http://www.alysonclair.com/) to view her current collection, and browse previous collections as well.  You can find out where to bu your Claire Vintage Inspired clothing on her website as well; click here.  She is also on Facebook and MySpace.

Ouch Pouch

Those of you who follow my blog regularly know that I am a self proclaimed germ-a-phobic, safety nazi, and all around hot mess.  I never leave home with my kids without my Purell, bandaids, Neo-to-go, but hate traveling with a giant first aide kit (since I typically have enough stuff to drag around with me in addition to three kids).  Tossing these items into my purse is like throwing them into a black hole, so imagine my delight when I found the “Ouch Pouch.”  These stylish bags come in multiple sizes (perfect for purses, diaper bags, beach bags, briefcases, to keep in the car, etc.) and are perfect to fill with your Mom essentials like band-aids, Neo-to-go, tweezers, lollipop, travel sunscreen, and wipes.  Actually, these bags are great stocking stuffers for Moms, teachers, college students, and more.  I also always add some stickers in my ouch pouch as well as some travel Motrin for me! Perfect for small inhalers, epi-pens, thermometers or whatever suits your individual needs- and do it in style with tons of fabrics o choose from.   There’s plenty of room for you to add any extras you need.  So quit fumbling around for a band-aide (with a screaming child) out on the playground!  Bring an Ouch Pouch and be ready for whatever life throws at you!  Visit the Ouch Pouch Etsy Shop today at http://www.etsy.com/shop/PillowSewCute?ref=top_trail!  Keep an eye out for a Ouch Pouch Giveaway soon too!

Cake Decorating Gift Bag

from Teachings Good Things

Teaching Good Things is a website geared at giving families practical skills that they can use for life. They have workshops geared towards young men that include helpful courses like Wood Working, Tools, Auto Maintenance, etc. For women they offer a variety of Homemaking Skills like Cake Decorating, Quilting, Sewing, Gardening and more. They also have a blog, but I was lucky enough to receive something from their Shop- The Cake Decorating Gift Bag. This bag comes with the basic tools you’ll need to start decorating, with the exception of the pan and food ingredients. This includes the tips, a decorator’s bag, a cake spatula, a coupler, a flower nail and their Basic Cake Decorating DVD.

Personally, I do cook often, and I have mastered making most meals. However, my baking lacks luster and basic skills. If it’s more than smothering a boxed cake in canned icing, then I’m in trouble. I have no decorating skills what-so-ever. I have tried reading baking cookbooks and recipes online, but I am a visual learner. My family cannot wait to help me learn to decorate cakes, but sadly for them, with the tools and DVD, I don’t think I’ll have as much trouble as they hope I do!

What a great gift for the holidays or bridal showers! To order your own Cake Decorating Bag, or to see other products, visit Teaching Good Things Shop. To learn more visit their blog and website.

City Slips

I absolutely love, love, love this fabulous idea. In my previous life, I worked as a corporate trainer and often wore heels to work. On days I wasn’t teaching it was usually okay, I’d just kick them off under my desk, but on the days where I was teaching, my feet and legs were usually killing me by the end of the day. If I had some of these fantastic shoes, I would have at least been able to give my feet a break!

I’m getting ahead of myself. Let me tell you what CitySlips are! CitySlips are portable, foldable ballet slippers that come in black, silver and gold. The have a leather looking matching travel bag that you can keep in your purse, briefcase or where ever! When you’re feet just can’t take the fabulous heels anymore, slide on the CitySlips and open the pouch into a travel bag to carry those fashionable yet sometimes painful heels. Great for to and from the office, walking to lunch, or just to give your feet a fashionable break during the day. What a lifesaver these would be a office parties, weddings, etc! And don’t worry about sliding everywhere in your CitySlips, the bottoms have double soles for extra durability and control! Check it out:

Justine – Chocolove Paisley

Pleated Wristlet/Clutch

by Sew Posh Designs

If you’ve been with me a while, you definitely remember Sew Posh Designs from our most popular Giveaways of the Tori Ebony and Ivory Wristlet this past summer. If you’re new, let me introduce her. The creative fashionista and designer behind Sew Posh Designs, Debbie, has been doing hand embroidery and sewing since she was very young. While her daughter was young she discovered hand smocking, heirloom sewing and doll making, and some of her creations have even been published in a Smocking and Heirloom Magazine. Debbie’s first business was selling hair bows and beaded socks that she initially made for her young daughter since she was unable to find fancy accessories that would go with her outfits. Once her daughter outgrew these types of outfits, she began looking for another creative outlet. Sew Posh Designs was born!

Each bag that Sew Posh Designs carries is handmade by Debbie with superb attention to detail and each reflects her talent and high quality craftsmanship. There is a wide variety of bags to choose from Diaper Bags and Shopping Totes, On the Go Handbags, Messenger Bags, and Mother/Daughter bags, and more! Debbie even has bags by season, like a great selection of Fall and Winter Bags (the zebra pleated Justine is one of my favorites) and there are even some fun Christmas Bags!

With all of these fabulous bags to choose from you might ask what drew me to the Justine Chocolove Paisley Pleated Wristlet/Clutch. I’ll tell you! First, it’s in the name; I love that the bag is so versatile! With the strap on you can use it as a wristlet and carry your essentials. The bag is 6 (h) x 10 1/2 (widest point) x 1 1/2 (d) and the perfect size for my wallet, cell phone, keys, and makeup. I’ve found that the larger my bag the more like a black hole it becomes, and besides that I’ve had 6 straight years of diaper bags, and these smaller bags are giving my back a break! I also love that fact that if you take off the removable strap the bag makes a fabulous clutch! I made a conscious decision to choose a fabric that was not black and white (although some of the fantastic styles in those colors made it difficult), but i choose this to match some chocolate leather boots I bought last season. the pleated design gives an extra “something” to the bag, and inside you’ll find two pockets perfect for keeping your essentials organized. When I received the bag and took it on a test run, a friend asked it it was a designer label. I replied, of course it was!

Debbie’s bags are made with such care and detail, you’ll be the only one to know that they are handmade! She totes (excuse the pun) some of the best designs and you’re sure to find something you’d like whether it’s large or small, leather or fabric. A perfect gift for any woman on your list or grab one for yourself, ladies! Find her on Facebook, check out her blog, and browse her full line and purchase your own at the Sew Posh Design WebsiteUse promo Code diva2 and get 10% off through 12/31/10!

Erno Laszlo

Anti-Aging Skin Care

Dr. Erno Lazlo was a Hungarian dermatologist that developed a number of revolutionary products, first, starting back in 1927. Dr. Lazlo was the first to develop sunscreen, products with PH balance, products formulated with water for oily skin, products for teens, facial products for men, and the first to prescribe skin care rituals. Back in the late 1930′s he settled in New York City and has had some of the world’s most beautiful and famous women as clients like Ava Gardner, Marilyn Monroe, and Jackie Kennedy to name a few. After launching a retail line in the 1960′s thousands of women have been able to enjoy his marvelous products.

After speaking with an Erno Laszlo representative I told them as a woman in my late twenties (alright fine, early thirties), I am concerned mostly with keeping my skin looking young and to target the two fine lines slowly appearing on my forehead. I was sent three items to try all from the TranspHuse line: the TranspHuse Night Serum, TranspHuse Topical Deluxe, and the TranspHuse Eye Cream.

Now let me preface my experience with the Erno Laszlo products by saying that I have tried four or five anti-aging products in the past from brands like Oil of Olay, L’Oreal, Clinique, and other similar makers. I have tried facial scrubs, day cream, night cream and eye treatments all with varying success. Some caused my combination skin to break out, others left me terribly oily, and some even dried out my face. I never felt like I saw a noticeable difference in my skin’s general appearance or in the two fine lines slowly making themselves a home on my forehead. Although I did research the Erno Laszlo line prior to accepting the offer to review the product, I still assumed that I would not see a difference.

I began using all three products as directed and to my delight 5-7 days after my first application my fine lines (okay, wrinkles) on my forehead had disappeared. That’s right, they are gone. I used to joke and say I was going to get botox for my 33rd birthday this summer, and now, apparently, I won’t have to even joke about it anymore. I was curious to see if perhaps these products were causing swelling or something that would create the illusion that the lines were gone, so I stopped treatment for a few days. The lines were gone, and so that it stays that way, I am back to using the TranspHuse night serum and eye cream daily and I have begun using the TranspHuse topical every other day (which by the way can be worn under make up).

I’m not going to pretend to understand the science behind it, but here’s the TranspHuse description on the Erno Laszlo website:

“Debating a cosmetic procedure? Consider using TranspHuse Topical instead. This state-of-the-art formula, with skin-firming and line-plumping dermaxyl and marine filling spheres, also contains gatuline expression which minimizes the micro-contractions in the skin for a smoother, noticeably younger appearance.”

I’m also not going to pretend these Erno Laszlo products, although worth every penny, are not expensive by most people’s standards. However, if you were debating on having a cosmetic procedure done, this is a much less expensive alternative, and one that really worked for me. So treat yourself ladies (or guys), or give the gift of younger more youthful skin this holiday!

You can find Erno Lazlo in major department stores like Nordstrom’s, or you can shop right from the Erno Lazlo website. Find products to suit your skin type, skin concern/problem, or by category. You can also find them on Facebook and Twitter.

NewYorkDress.com

I’d wear a dress every day if I could. I love day dresses, evening dresses, wedding (guest) dresses, and especially little black dresses. You’d think I had a lot more social events based on the number of dresses hanging in my closet, and even though I don’t get out nearly as much as I like to, I still love a beautiful dress.

As many of you already know, I prefer to do my shopping online, and I recently came across NewYorkDress.com when I was searching for my holiday dress for this year. I was like a kid in a candy shop. NewYorkDress.com has hundreds (maybe thousands) of dresses to choose from. If your fashion savvy, you can shop by designer, or if you’re like me, shop by occasion. There are dozens of categories like Christmas dresses, New Year’s Eve Dresses, Cocktail Dresses, Wedding Guest Dresses, Little Black Dresses, Prom Dresses for 2011, Bridesmaids, Formal Gowns, Red Carpet Dresses and more! Here are some of my favorites:

Love this "little black dress"

Another similar Little Black Dress I think I'll have to have...

For my next formal event

For my Red Carpet Debut with Alexander Skarsguard for the 2011 True Blood Season Premier

So don’t miss out on some of the hottest styles and the widest selection of dresses I’ve ever found on the internet at NewYorkDress.com. Find them on Facebook, Twitter, call them for 212-594-3600, or chat live with customer service on their website. Look for an upcoming dress review for NewYorkDress.com on February 7, 2011. My husband doesn’t know it yet, but he’s taking me somewhere fancy…
