Teaching Good Things is a website geared at giving families practical skills that they can use for life.  They have workshops geared towards young men that include helpful courses like Wood Working, Tools, Auto Maintenance, etc.  For women they offer a variety of Homemaking Skills like Cake Decorating, Quilting, Sewing, Gardening and more.  They also have a blog, but I was lucky enough to receive something from their Shop- The Cake Decorating Gift Bag.  This bag comes with the basic tools you’ll need to start decorating, with the exception of the pan and food ingredients.  This includes the tips, a decorator’s bag, a cake spatula, a coupler, a flower nail and their Basic Cake Decorating DVD.

Personally, I do cook often, and I have mastered making most meals.  However, my baking lacks luster and basic skills.  If it’s more than smothering a boxed cake in canned icing, then I’m in trouble.  I have no decorating skills what-so-ever.  I have tried reading baking cookbooks and recipes online, but I am a visual learner.  My family cannot wait to help me learn to decorate cakes, but sadly for them, with the tools and DVD, I don’t think I’ll have as much trouble as they hope I do!
