Although people probably wouldn’t describe me as overly frugal, nothing I makes me more frustrated than throwing away perfectly good food because my method of storing it failed me! Unfortunately, that’s something that’s happened to me more times than I care to admit; however, those days of tossing food – and money – in the trash are over thanks to my new FoodSaver® Vacuum Sealing System.
In my household of five, I often buy meat in bulk from our wholesale club, but most of the time I’m not cooking all of it at once. In many cases I end up freezing some of the meat raw or I cook something and then freeze the meal for later. A great example would be ground beef or turkey. Many times I’ll make meatballs and freeze them for later, but I can’t leave them in the freezer for long because they always end of freezer burned! This picture below shows the meatballs stored in a Ziplock Freezer Bag on the left (after 7 days in the freezer) versus the meatballs I made and froze (also for 7 days) stored using the the FoodSaver® system.
The FoodSaver® Vacuum Sealing System is great for a variety of foods and it keeps foods fresh up to 5x longer. Best of all it can save you up to $2700 a year! I don’t about you, but that’s a lot of meatballs! For full details visit the FoodSaver® site here.
If you ask me, this might be the best time of year to get a FoodSaver® system. I prepare – and eat – a lot of food around the holidays, and in addition to it allowing me to store and prepare food ahead of time, it helps me store and save so many of the delicious leftovers for later. Coming up in just a couple weeks is my favorite feasting holiday – Thanksgiving – and there’s always plenty of food and leftovers to enjoy. I’m going to share one of my favorite recipes you can use this Thanksgiving with all that leftover turkey, and if you have enough, or you’re just tired of turkey, go ahead and use a FoodSaver® and save some soup for later (that’s right it even stores soup)!
