The Swilt

The Swilt

What’s a Swilt exactly? Well, I’ll tell you. It’s now one of the Divine Secrets of this Domestic Diva, but I won’t keep this one to myself. The Swilt combines two of my favorite winter items, the sweater and the quilt.

Upon first glance, I’ll admit I was a bit skeptical. The first word that came to mind was the often hilarious and never practical Snuggie. Shame on me though! The Swilt is nothing, I repeat nothing, like a backwards robe you should never admit to owning and never, under any circumstance, wear outdoors. No, no! The Swilt practically begs to be worn in public!

Let’s break this down a bit. The Swilt is fashioned to look like an ordinary sweater (like a fleece hoodie), but it also has a hidden blanket that allows it to transform into a full body cover! The Swilt, when worn as a sweater, covers both your front and back, has a front pocket, a hoodie to cover your head, and, as I mentioned before, is made of thick fleece which guarantees both warmth and comfort. When wearing the Swilt as a sweater, you can enjoy being as mobile and active as you normally would, and no one would be the wiser that you’re hiding a full body cover. Look how unassuming the Swilt is:

Now, for my favorite part! When you’re settled in, ready to get cozy, need some extra warmth, the Swilt has a blanket attached in the midsection which is easily unfolded to cover the rest of your body. So now your bottom, legs and even feet can stay as warm and comfortable as the rest of you. Best of all, at the bottom of the blanket, there is a foot pocket that is lined with water resistant nylon. The inside of this foot pocket is the same thick, comforting fleece, but the outside protects your feet getting dirty. Take a look at the Swilt in it’s full glory:

My Swilt arrived and I couldn’t wait to try it out. I’m chronically cold in the winter and have been plagued as long as I can remember with “cold feet.” Although my initial thought was that I would use this in all my “free” time curled up on the couch, eating bon-bons, and watching my “stories,” I was surprised how much I wore the Swilt as a Sweater. It really wasn’t bulky or obtrusive, and it definitely kept me warm. I also would have no problem wearing it out in public since it looks like a regular hoodie. However, my favorite way to use the Swilt, is in it’s full glory as a body cover. Even just sitting at the computer (which is next to an often drafty window), I am warm and comfortable. I’m sure that this Swilt, which washed and dried easily (be sure to follow special care instructions), will be used for years to come. No more freezing my rear off in the bleachers at sporting events or even on the beach (we go well into the Fall and are back early in the Spring).

Right now, you can order order your own Swilt online (http://www.theswilt.com/) in two sizes: Large or Smedium (that’s a small medium combo). It’s available in four colors (Magenta, Gray, Navy Blue, or Camouflage), and it only costs $29.95. If you ask me that’s cheaper than buying a new fleece sweater and fleece blanket!

I have a feeling the Swilt’s are going to catch on since they’re not only a way to stay warm and comfortable, but they’re a practical and fashion-friendly way of doing so! Check out more about the Swilt on their website, find them on Facebook and Follow them on Twitter. Look for a Giveaway January 21st-28th where you’ll have a chance to win your own Swilt!
