Vintage 50′s Pin Up Bathing Suit

I recently posted about not being able to find a bathing suit this season. I was actually pretty traumatized and blogged about my experience trying on bathing suits in a swimsuit outlet shop at the beach comparing it to being in Dante’s Third Circle of hell.  No matter where I shopped, I was not able to find a bathing suit I liked.  Although I was reluctant to make a purchase online without trying on the suit, I had an idea about what I wanted.  While on the beach I saw several young women wearing the vintage style suits from the 1950′s.  After visiting a few stores online, I happily found myself at Unique Vintage’s website. My only issue while browsing their selection for a vintage/retro bathing suits was that the choices were all so fabulous that I wasn’t able to make up my mind on which suit I wanted. I actually had to take out a pen and paper and list the suits I liked. Once I hit ten bathing suits, I began to slowly narrow it down, and finally ended up choosing the Esther Williams Vintage 50′s Style Pin Up Retro Leopard Bathing Suit.

Okay, let me be honest, Leopard wasn’t my first choice or even my second. They have several different colors and patterns available, but the red and white polka dot as well as the black and white polka dot were back ordered.  They also had a solid red, solid black, cherry (super cute), solid white and a giraffe print in the same Esther Williams 50′s Pin Up Style, all of which were fabulous. As you all know I have a huge obsession with black and white clothing/accessories and also polka dots. When both the polka dot suits were back ordered I had the choice to wait just 1-2 weeks for them to come in or pick another pattern. I took them being back ordered as a sign from the universe to step outside the box. So I did; I stepped out of the box, way out and went with the Leopard print.  It was also my intention from the start to embrace my new body, the one I have been left with after having three children, and have my picture taken in my new bathing suit.  So if I’m going to put myself out there as this “Domestic Diva” I’m going to go all the way with it. I made my selection and ordered based on the size suggestions from Unique Vintage.

Soon after ordering my Esther Williams Vintage 50′s Pin Up Style Retro Leopard Bathing Suit it arrived and snuck off to my room to try it on. Keeping my eyes closed, I approached my mirror, ready for disappointment. To my surprise, I immediately loved it!  The top of the suit, in true pin up fashion, accentuates the chest while the body of the suit is covered in a “bunched” style fabric which hides, and I mean hides, any rolly polly flibby flab that may be on your (and my) belly.  The suit also comes down across the very top of the thighs which is also a “problem area” for me.  So with all the right body parts being flaunted, and all the other “problem areas” covered, I was prancing down the steps to show my husband. I’ll keep his comments private in part because my family reads this, but I will say he liked it. He really, really likes it.

So this Diva loves the Unique Vintage Esther Williams Bathing Suit, the selection of styles, colors, patterns and quick shipping.  I might be purchasing another one of their Lolita Girl suits (check ‘em out, they’re hot), and I know I’ll be back to buy more Vintage clothing like dresses, shoes and accessories.  So if you’re looking for a Vintage Suit, look no further than Unique Vintage (http://www.unique-vintage.com/) for fabulous style, selections and service!
