I should take a lesson from my five year old son, Joey, and start using our Wii Fit Plus.  His latest obsession is the 10 minute running game.

Today was another freezing cold Mid-Atlantic day that forced us to stay indoors.  Does that mean that my kids don’t get to be physically active?  Not in this house.  Cecilia and Jake took turns climbing on furniture, chairs, and even kitchen tables.  The utilized problem solving skills, upper and lower body strength training, and general balance to achieve their goals.  Joey, on the other hand just enjoyed aerobic exercise.

We’ve had a Wii game system for over a year, but Joey just found the running game yesterday.  So far today he’s played it five times and clocked close to 12 miles.  I’m not sure how accurate that is, but I think we found one of Joey’s raw talents…running.  This kid looks like Forrest Gump “that boy is a running fool!”  He’s been trying to beat his previous times and has enjoyed running past the other Mii’s that appear. For those who don’t own a Wii a “Mii” is  the other Avatars you create.   He’s created over 100 “Joeys” that all look sort of the same. Some have different hair cuts and colors, some have glasses and some don’t but they all resemble Joey.

Check out Joey on his third run of the day, somewhere between mile 5 and 6:

I’m looking into a child sized hamster wheel for his birthday in July. I’m thinking I can just keep it in his room. Let me know if you’ve seen one sold anywhere.
