Last year I told you about the influence that Disney has over my kids.
That might not sound like a bad thing right off the bat, but trust me, when it comes to being a Mom in the world of pretend Disney play, you usually don’t get the happily ever after.
No, as a Mom you get Disney Dead.
The good news is that since that post, and my general pleas for a more peaceful world of play, the Moms seem to not only be surviving, but they’re able to get out of even the worst situations.
It’s evident not just in the way my kids play, but recently was visible in my daughter’s art work as well. This alligator came home from school, a drawing done at her pre-k for the letter “A” week, depicting just how amazing Moms are in her world now.
In this piece, an alligator swallowed me whole. Don’t worry, I’m still alive, and according to my daughter, I’m going to make it. I just need to get past the butt.
Some people might look at this drawing and see a simple, silly piece of kid’s art.
I look at this and see how awesome we Moms really are…
Sometimes it can feel like life is like a giant predator that is ready to swallows us whole, but when that happens we make our way through the dark, scary parts, and do what we have to do to get through (even the shittiest places) in one piece.
We’re practically super heroes.
We use our smarts, our determination, and we’re not afraid to get a little dirty.
So when you feel like you’ve been swallowed up, just remember there is a light at the end of the tunnel. You’ve just got to make it to the butt.
Take that, Disney.
