The Immortal Rules Book Giveaway

Looking for this summer’s must-read? The Immortal Rules by New York Times best-selling author Julie Kagawa is one of this season’s most anticipated releases. The literary blog-o-sphere is buzzing about its upcoming release and MTV’s Hollywood Crush debuted the cover of The Immortal Rules, calling it “…your new favorite vampire story of all time.” An advance review by the literary review magazine Kirkus went on to say “Kagawa has done the seemingly impossible and written a vampire book, the first in a planned series, that feels fresh in an otherwise crowded genre. She mixes paranormal and dystopian tropes……creating a world that will appeal across audiences.”

Here’s a little about the book, The Immortal Rules, the first installment in the Blood of Eden series from HarlequinTeen,(retails $18.99):

You will kill. The only question is when.

In the dark days since the insidious Red Lung virus decimated the human population, vampires have risen to rule the crumbling cities and suburbs. Uncontested Princes hold sway over diminished ranks of humans: their “pets.” In exchange for their labor, loyalty and of course, their blood, these pets are registered, given food and shelter, permitted to survive.

Unregistered humans cling to the fringe, scavenging for survival. Allison Sekemoto and her fellow Unregistereds are hunted, not only by vampires, but by rabids, the unholy result of Red Lung-infected vampires feeding on unwary humans. One night, Allie is attacked by a pack of rabids, saved by an unlikely hero…and turned vampire.

Uncomfortable in her undead skin, Allie falls in with a ragtag crew of humans seeking a cure, or cures: for Rabidism and for Vampirism. She’s passing for human…for now. But the hunger is growing and will not be denied. Not for friendship—not even for love.

Due to a general lack of time, I rarely do book reviews anymore. However, after being offered the opportunity to read New York Times Best Selling Author Julie Kagawa’s latest book, the first in a new vampire series, I was intrigued. I was a fan of the Twilight Series, have read most of the Sookie Stackhouse books (the ones HBO’s True Blood is based on), so I wanted to be among the first to read what is being hailed the next BIG vampire series.

The Immortal Rules didn’t disappoint. I read the whole book in just a couple days, using every spare moment after bedtime, while waiting to pick the kids up from school in the car, all to see what would happen next. The great thing about the book was that even though there are so many vampire books and movies right now, this isn’t the same old thing. There are vampires, who aren’t all what they seem, as well as rabids who reminded me of the creatures from the movie I am Legend (at least that’s how I imagined them). Then there’s the main character, Allie, who when faced with life or death chose something in between, becoming what she has hated most. Her transformation makes it hard to put the book down. I’m already anxious for the second book!
The Immortal Rules is the perfect book to kick off summer by the pool, on the beach, or on a road trip! This week one lucky winner in US or Canada will receive a hardback copy to enjoy themselves!
