The Last Snowman Review & Giveaway

Author JC Little talked about her first book, The Last Snowman and had this to say, “I’m not an author and I’m not a publisher. I’m an animator for crying out loud! And yet here I am self-publishing my first picture book. Because stories are what matter. And that’s why you should buy this book. Because stories. And hot chocolate.”

You know she had me at hot chocolate.

Actually, that’s not entirely true because I’ve followed the talented JC for several years. I remember her as one of the very first people I followed on Twitter because how can you not be drawn to her? Pun intended. JC’s work is lively, funny, witty, light-hearted, and well, animated.

So when I was given the chance to review her first published book, I jumped at the chance.

Officially, here’s the book’s description: “This afternoon it snowed. It was probably one of the last snows of the winter, so it was lovely sticky snow…perfect for making a snowman.” So begins the funny and poignant tale of a teenage girl and a dangerously tall snowman. From the kitchen window, a mother watches her teenage daughter build one last snowman in the fresh spring snow. The girl works diligently, and with some help from her little brother, she constructs a dashing giant. But wet snow and gravity take their toll, leaving a young girl who has perhaps loved and lost for the very first time. The LAST Snowman is a book with timeless appeal for children and adults alike. Award-winning story artist JC Little has playfully captured a tender “moment” in family life, marking the ephemeral grace between childhood and adolescence. “

As a Mom this book tugged at my heart-strings, but my four year old daughter really loved the animation, I mean, illustrations. As with much of JC’s art, her pictures tell a story all on their own. Here’s my daughter “reading” the book herself.

She enjoyed it so much that she even decided to share it with her best friend. I can’t say for sure, but I think he enjoyed the pictures as well.

You can buy The Last Snowman on Amazon and not only is the Kindle price just $3.00, but the story is designed to ‘animate’ in the page flips of Kindle! It’s also available in paperback on CreateSpace.

You can also read more from the talented author on her website here. Find her on Facebook and Twitter too!

Wait! There’s more! JC Little is offering one lucky reader (US or Canada) their own copy of The Last Snowman plus an official Last Snowman mug perfect for a little hot chocolate after playing in the snow.
